Stop being distracted by what light illuminates! Just look at light!

Then dive … dissolve … till you cast no shadow.

Narcissus Quagliata

Narcissus Quagliata is a painter, a glass artist, a teacher and a poet. His paintings can be seen in museums and private collections worldwide. He defined new pathways for glass art and is considered one of the most significant artists in this medium. He is best known for his spectacular artworks in public spaces which have drawn worldwide attention.

The Dome of Light: Wind, Fire, and Time is the largest illuminated glass art dome in the world. It is situated in the Central Station of the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit metro system and is a landmark that has now become a tourist destination in Taiwan.

His glass dome for the entry rotunda of the basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, built by Michelangelo on the ruins of the Baths of Diocletian in Rome, is well known for the use of light within the space to manifest the movement and alignment of celestial bodies.

One of his major life achievements has been the development of techniques to create fused glass imagery, a process that is akin to painting. He is sharing this new-found language through a series of on-line masterclasses.

Narcissus Quagliata is an active writer whose first poetry collection, MUTANT, was published by Arnoldsche Publishers in 2019.

The deepest interest in Narcissus’ artistic practice is the creative act in which his passion for the figure, beautiful and ugly, is embraced with all of its contradictions, and in which his profound love for the materials and insatiable drive to innovate pushes and explores the medium to its extreme limit.
