His earliest and most notable contribution is Narcissus’ use of the lead in stained glass. In traditional windows the lead is purely functional, a dull impersonal matrix there only to hold the glass vertically against the light. Now, in his work the lead becomes an active participant in the definition of the image. From very thick to razor thin, the lively and flowing leadlines are a signature feature of his stained glass work.
